The Lagos State Police command has issued a seven-day ultimatum to owners and operators of unregistered vehicles in the state to register their vehicles. Bala Elkana, Police spokesman in Lagos, in a statement listed vehicles with covered or defaced plate numbers, vehicles with fake plate numbers and vehicles without plate numbers. Bala said the enforcement becomes necessary because criminals have been using such vehicles to commit crimes. “The massive clampdown begins on 13th January 2020 until sanity is restored to our roads,” he said. He noted that a Special Operations to clamp down on violators of traffic laws and to embark on massive enforcement at the expiration of the seven days ultimatum.
